Life and stuff. [Mar. 18th, 2009|02:16 pm]
Yes, it has been a long time since I last posted, but nothing of great interest has happened to us, except the speedy passage of time.

Now though, we have a big decision ahead of us.

Tim was placed on garden leave on Monday afternoon. It was a big shock as we thought that the company he worked for was safe from this kind of thing as they didn't rely on market factors so much. The company have some different positions available though, so Tim put himself forward for these, and we are waiting to hear from them if he gets an interview.

For me, I had finally made decisions about my future and I was applying to do a PGCE, planning on doing a strict (expensive) diet and working on plans for extending the house. These are now on hold for who knows how long.

So, we are now facing an uncertain week, but I am trying to convince Tim that this is an opportunity for us to look at what we want to do with our future as a family. Do we try to stay here in York, or do we look at moving over to Lancs near my parents or elsewhere (as long as it isn't the south!)? What does he want from a job, what do I want to do with my life?

So...... potentially lots of thinking in the next few weeks and many options to explore. If anybody does hear of software engineer jobs in the north let me or Tim know.

The Deathly Hallows [Jul. 23rd, 2007|08:12 pm]
I must admit that I was chomping at the bit for the postman to arrive with my copy on Sat morning. Once he finally arrived, much later than usual, I had cuddles with my family and from there I was reading. Lunch was nice, but I still had my nose buried in the book, as we had to drive over an hour to a friends party. So it was with sadness that I climbed into the car with Tim driving knowing that I would soon reach the end of the book. So luckily I had tissues in the glove compartment to wipe my running tired eyes. And then it was done. Gone forever. I now know the fate of people from the Potter world. It was a relief to know what happened. There were no real surprises but a tying up of ends.

Upon much more thought and a big hole in the supposed time-line, I am left feeling slightly disappointed and upset at the trite ending. Also, I think that it is too ready made for a film, and large chunks of necessary details seem to be missing. Perhaps it will work better when I reread it after Josie's birthday on Wednesday. We'll see!

Merry Chriatmas [Dec. 23rd, 2006|09:57 am]
Just a quickie before we do our usual travelling for Christmas.

Life in York has been the same, and it seems to me that it has by so fast that my body says we are in October, not December. Josie is great and funny and cute, as well as being the most annoying thing in the world at times. She is looking forward to Christmas, and I think this is the last year we can openly go shopping and have pressies lying around without too much interest and rummaging.

Anyway, Tim nags as we should be gone in 5 mins and have lots left to do - so

HAPPY CHRISTMAS everyone and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Don't drink and drive we want to see you in 2007.

Tim writes: My 3 year old Olympus C350 Zoom digital camera has been becoming increasingly unreliable recently. I often couldn't use the navigation buttons, which left me stuck in whichever mode it was in, and sometimes it wouldn't even turn on. As you can imagine, this can be quite frustrating... particularly when I couldn't turn the flash on or off.

Canon A540 Digital Camera So while we were in New England last month, I bought my self a new digital camera; a Canon PowerShot A540. With 6 megapixels and 4x optical zoom, it's certainly better than my old one. It has a ton of picture modes, including an "underwater" mode, which I managed to make good use of at the Boston Aquarium. The shutter and aperture priority modes look like they might be useful sometime too, once I've worked out how to use them.

In an effort to learn more about digital photography and to teach my self to take better pictures, I've created a new website which is full of useful tutorials and tips on Digital Cameras and Photography. I hope this site will be useful to other amateur photographers too...

Meanwhile, I really must catch up on the 3 years of photographs that I've been collecting, admittedly most of them are of Josephine or cards for Crafty-Fox. I quite like Picassa for organising my pictures, and it does a good job of exporting them to the website.

Wedding Anniversary [Aug. 27th, 2006|04:53 pm]
Well, we made it to our 6th anniversary.

It really doesn't feel like 6 years. Looking back at our special day, I remember all our friends who were with us and those who couldn't join us. No matter if they are near or far we want to remind them, that even if we don't talk too much anymore, we are still ok, and still think of them.

Also, if you ever want a chat or to visit, we would love to see/speak to you.

The Pox!!! [Aug. 18th, 2006|08:57 am]
[mood | grateful]

Discovered spots on Josie, and yes, we now have the pox!!

Josie is fine with it, not much itching and currently not too many spots. I hope it stays that way!

I'm glad we've got it now, it's a good age to have it and it'll be gone by the time we fly. Thank goodness!

Travel and Birthday [Aug. 18th, 2006|08:46 am]
Well, it is now only 3 weeks until Tim turns 30 and we travel to the States to see his family for a couple of weeks. We going to stay in Bolton (not in Lancashire!), Connecticut for a couple of days and then move on to Maine to see the Grandparents, then back to Boston for a few days. It is quite scary really, having never been on a long flight, and never having been to the States. Also having to drive an automatic on the wrong side. Argh! I can't wait! Perhaps Josie will keep me sane?!

I was thinking about having a gathering at the end of September to celebrate Tim's b'day. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll sort it out properly sometime soon - honest!!

Manchester Passion [Apr. 14th, 2006|11:41 pm]
I'm just watching this novel re-telling of the Passion of Christ, set in locations throughout Manchester, using the songs of Mancunian songsters and artists. It is amazing and very moving, especially using songs which were never meant to convey this message. Fantastic. If you missed it, watch out for repeats tomorrow. It is worth it even if you don't believe.

Goodbye my lovely dog [Mar. 20th, 2006|05:37 pm]
[mood | sad]

Well, great sadness now is upon my family as this weekend my dog, Zac, finally passed away. For those of you that never met him, he was a large, beautiful, black dog - a Great Dane crossed with something. He was super friendly and very placid. He loved the beach, and had many holidays with my parents in France at their caravan. He died of old age, 14 in human years - he was about 112 in big dog years - very old.

In true Nulty style we held a funeral for him. The big deep hole, the saying of prayers, giving him his toys and finally the dirt on top. My 11 year old nephew insisted on helping fill the hole in. It was a truly heart-breaking time.

Although he was my dog, he lived with my parents, it was unfair to them and him to remove him from their care when I got married. Towards the end, he had many problems, cancer of the blood vessels, which he overcame, and then loss of use of his back legs. My parents carefully nursed him by carrying him out to wee and feeding him roast dinners off their best plates. They stayed up with him and watched him pass away. It is very sad to walk into my parents house with no bouncy dog rushing over to say hello.

I had told Josie we were off to see Granny, and she mentioned Zac. How do you explain that to a 2 yr old? He is gone away, to live with God forever. I know God will look after him and love him. I hope that he realises what a special dog he is.

So, he is buried next to our previous dog, in a plot which will be loved and cared for. We won't forget what a gift he was, and it will be a long time before we'll forget him.

No surprises here! [Feb. 24th, 2006|10:00 pm]
You Are Miss Piggy

A total princess and diva, you're totally in charge - even if people don't know it.
You want to be loved, adored, and worshiped. And you won't settle for anything less.
You're going to be a total star, and you won't let any of the "little people" get in your way.
Just remember, piggy, never eat more than you can lift!

Paris and other things [Jan. 7th, 2006|05:54 pm]
[mood | exhausted]

For  the first time ever, I have been on an aeroplane. My sister arranged a trip to Paris, with one day at Disney and the next in Paris.

All about our trip to Paris and Disneyland )

This weekend we are trying to do all the usual getting over Christmas things and going back to work things, but we need sleep too. I have a lot of paperwork to prepare for several committees that I am on, so maybe sleep can wait until next year!

Snow! [Jan. 1st, 2006|11:41 am]
Click here to see a bigger picture... (60Kb)It snowed in York this week, so it was almost a White Christmas.

Josie loved tromping around in the snow, until mean ole Daddy got too cold and dragged her inside. It's all gone now, but it was nice while it lasted.

Happy New Year everyone!

Tim, Caro and Josie.

Space Cadets... [Dec. 11th, 2005|09:53 pm]

The Story So Far

Twelve people have spent the last 3 weeks training at S.T.A.R.City in Russia, for a week long mission into "Outer Space", or so they believe. They've actually never left England, and have been at an old disused air base in Suffolk. Hours of lectures taught them that the city of Minsk was named after a monkey who went into space, and there is a galaxy out there called the "Hazelnut Cluster".

Tomorrow (12th), four of them will be "launched" live in a Space Shuttle (actually a simulator). They will not be expecting a vertical lauch, but a nice gentle take off into a low orbit. There will not be any Zero Gravity because a) they won't be going high enough, and b) there are three Anti-Gravity generators on board.

Space Cadets - Channel 4, 9pm.

Sorry kashmera

Oh Great Cthulhu!

I have been an extremely diligent devotee this year.

In December, I burnt my copy of the Necronomicon (-75 points). In April, I visited my relatives in Innsmouth (100 points). In May, I bombed a cultist gathering (-100 points). When the stars were right, I defiled the grave of that traitor, Lovecraft (90 points). In October, I rescued [info]crafty_fox_uk from being sacrificed (-200 points). In July, I sacrificed [info]kashmera to Cthulhu (500 points).

In short, I have been very good (315 points) and deserve the honour of having my body used as a host for one of your servitors.

Your humble and obedient servant,

Space Cadets [Dec. 6th, 2005|06:53 pm]

Here's a reality show that may or may not be worth a watch. Billed as the 'biggest TV hoax ever', Channel 4's  Space Cadets features a lucky team of applicants into "Space" (aka Ipswich). See the web site for the trailer and there's more info over at DigitalSpy. Starts on Wednesday!

Cards [Nov. 30th, 2005|12:32 am]
[mood |accomplished]

I have just finished making 100 corporate cards.

It was a long hard slog. The design the customer wanted I could no longer make, so I suggested others, then decided to see if I could source the materials needed. I found all I needed and it meant I got to buy a cool piece of kit too. This was only possible if I got the business. The customer agreed, so I spent loads of money getting everything needed. I made up a design and sent it to them. They decided that the card used was too flimsy and suggested if I couldn't get thicker card, no order. So a mad dash to find better card. I got some and sent it off. I then spent the weekend worrying I had spent all this money (which I don't have) for nothing. The customer got back to me and agreed to the order. So for the last 2 days I have spent making lots of cards, with much needed help and support from Timmo (and from Josie too!)

I just hope that the customer likes the cards.

I now have to finish off other orders for friends and family to be sent in the post on Thurs. I will be busy again tomorrow. I just hope no large internet orders come in now!

Best sleep now, as I still have childminding in the morning as well as card making in the evening!

Playgroup taster session and other Josie things [Nov. 30th, 2005|12:21 am]
So today Josie went to her first official session at playgroup. Although I didn't leave her I was on the other side of the large room. Was she upset, worried and missing her mummy? No. She didn't even look for me.
We had to leave after about an hour, and Josie then ran away from me and hid in the book corner, and then in the tunnel. She really didn't want to leave as she was having such a good time. I had to drag her out, kicking and screaming.

This could be because we actually spend a lot of time at playgroup. She runs off to play whilst I talk to the staff about money things as I am the treasurer for the groups. So when it comes to leaving she doesn't want to.

She won't really be starting until the end of Jan, but I really think she is ready for this now. All we need to work on is full potty training - it's too cold really, but she wants to wear knickers and use the loo, but it isn't practical for her to be running around in just a t-shirt at the mo! Her language could do with a bit more development, she doesn't really talk much yet. I'm sure this will change and we'll wish she never started.

She is a big little girl now!

Guess what! [Oct. 31st, 2005|08:06 pm]
[mood | chipper]

Tim is away in South Korea again, so I have time to do everything I want plus make a wedding cake, be sociable and tidy and clean and look after Josie.
My friend Sarah is finally getting married after only 8 years of engagement, and living together for 6 years. I agreed to make her wedding cake, and then, just as it gets to the time I need a hubby around to take care of the bean, he goes away , typical!
Cleaning and tidying is so much easier when there is no one to blame for not doing it, so you just get on with it!

In other news, Crafty-Fox website sales are going slowly, so if you do need Christmas cards, please get them from me.
Also, my mother was taken into hospital whilst on holiday in France, with inflammation of the tissue around the heart, so now the need to move back to Lancs has suddenly become urgent.
No new baby yet, still trying when I think about it, but not very hard!

Apart from that life is quite alright, with me taking on roles in my local community helping out everywhere possible, so now we are settled it is time to move on and start again.

News on Josie: She is fine and growing nicely. She is so pretty it scares me! We went swimming today and she decided she doesn't need me anymore to help. It's very sad she is so independent.
I am very proud of her as she is just lovely.
