Good news! No, make that Great News!!! [Jul. 9th, 2010|10:35 am]
As usual, this post is the first for well over a year, in which time has marched on, getting faster and faster. Tim and I started the house extension in September, and it was finished (well the building work bit) in early December. Tim worked his socks off decorating in time for Christmas. After all this hard work, in which we successfully achieved most of the decorating goals, we had some downtime, meaning to finish off painting the porch and finishing off the other rooms before Easter. Now the summer holidays loom and the porch is still unpainted. We have a new deadline of October to finish the decorating and sort the loft. We have a good reason to sort the loft now. It is full of baby things kept from when Josie finished using them, in the hope that within 2 years we would use them again. Now, 5 long years later, we have a reason to sort the baby things.

Baby Lump (as Josie is calling my tummy now) will be joining us in mid January! This means all those jobs we have left must be done before I get too big and to give us time to adjust to our family changing. Tim and I had pretty much given up hope on another baby, and knew that we were avoiding having the 'let's stop and investigate other ideas' conversation.

It was with absolute shock that I saw the test result, and 5 weeks later, I am still unsure if I am really pregnant or if it is all in my head. My body has been trying to prove to me it is real. The constant nausea, exhaustion and sickness has been hard to cope with, as well as trying to deal with the school run and Josie's afterschool activities. My body is already preparing me for a big change in how I will deal with 2 children. The age gap is 7 1/2 years, which is a good gap to have. Josie is already excited at the prospect of being a big sister and has been practicing with her Baby (I'm not allowed to call it a doll!). I know she will be very helpful and loving, but I do wonder how can I love this next one as much as I love her. Then I go into panic mode and wonder how to deal with another baby and...... *Deep Breathe*

Tim, Josie and I are very happy about this news, and we wanted to share the news with you, our very good friends as we hope that at some point in the next few months we could arrange a get together and celebrate the fact that although it may seem like life is dull and predictable, every now and then something happens which makes you realise that you should stop and celebrate what you have and the future! :o)

Life and stuff. [Mar. 18th, 2009|02:16 pm]
Yes, it has been a long time since I last posted, but nothing of great interest has happened to us, except the speedy passage of time.

Now though, we have a big decision ahead of us.

Tim was placed on garden leave on Monday afternoon. It was a big shock as we thought that the company he worked for was safe from this kind of thing as they didn't rely on market factors so much. The company have some different positions available though, so Tim put himself forward for these, and we are waiting to hear from them if he gets an interview.

For me, I had finally made decisions about my future and I was applying to do a PGCE, planning on doing a strict (expensive) diet and working on plans for extending the house. These are now on hold for who knows how long.

So, we are now facing an uncertain week, but I am trying to convince Tim that this is an opportunity for us to look at what we want to do with our future as a family. Do we try to stay here in York, or do we look at moving over to Lancs near my parents or elsewhere (as long as it isn't the south!)? What does he want from a job, what do I want to do with my life?

So...... potentially lots of thinking in the next few weeks and many options to explore. If anybody does hear of software engineer jobs in the north let me or Tim know.

The Deathly Hallows [Jul. 23rd, 2007|08:12 pm]
I must admit that I was chomping at the bit for the postman to arrive with my copy on Sat morning. Once he finally arrived, much later than usual, I had cuddles with my family and from there I was reading. Lunch was nice, but I still had my nose buried in the book, as we had to drive over an hour to a friends party. So it was with sadness that I climbed into the car with Tim driving knowing that I would soon reach the end of the book. So luckily I had tissues in the glove compartment to wipe my running tired eyes. And then it was done. Gone forever. I now know the fate of people from the Potter world. It was a relief to know what happened. There were no real surprises but a tying up of ends.

Upon much more thought and a big hole in the supposed time-line, I am left feeling slightly disappointed and upset at the trite ending. Also, I think that it is too ready made for a film, and large chunks of necessary details seem to be missing. Perhaps it will work better when I reread it after Josie's birthday on Wednesday. We'll see!

Merry Chriatmas [Dec. 23rd, 2006|09:57 am]
Just a quickie before we do our usual travelling for Christmas.

Life in York has been the same, and it seems to me that it has by so fast that my body says we are in October, not December. Josie is great and funny and cute, as well as being the most annoying thing in the world at times. She is looking forward to Christmas, and I think this is the last year we can openly go shopping and have pressies lying around without too much interest and rummaging.

Anyway, Tim nags as we should be gone in 5 mins and have lots left to do - so

HAPPY CHRISTMAS everyone and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Don't drink and drive we want to see you in 2007.

Tim writes: My 3 year old Olympus C350 Zoom digital camera has been becoming increasingly unreliable recently. I often couldn't use the navigation buttons, which left me stuck in whichever mode it was in, and sometimes it wouldn't even turn on. As you can imagine, this can be quite frustrating... particularly when I couldn't turn the flash on or off.

Canon A540 Digital Camera So while we were in New England last month, I bought my self a new digital camera; a Canon PowerShot A540. With 6 megapixels and 4x optical zoom, it's certainly better than my old one. It has a ton of picture modes, including an "underwater" mode, which I managed to make good use of at the Boston Aquarium. The shutter and aperture priority modes look like they might be useful sometime too, once I've worked out how to use them.

In an effort to learn more about digital photography and to teach my self to take better pictures, I've created a new website which is full of useful tutorials and tips on Digital Cameras and Photography. I hope this site will be useful to other amateur photographers too...

Meanwhile, I really must catch up on the 3 years of photographs that I've been collecting, admittedly most of them are of Josephine or cards for Crafty-Fox. I quite like Picassa for organising my pictures, and it does a good job of exporting them to the website.

Wedding Anniversary [Aug. 27th, 2006|04:53 pm]
Well, we made it to our 6th anniversary.

It really doesn't feel like 6 years. Looking back at our special day, I remember all our friends who were with us and those who couldn't join us. No matter if they are near or far we want to remind them, that even if we don't talk too much anymore, we are still ok, and still think of them.

Also, if you ever want a chat or to visit, we would love to see/speak to you.

The Pox!!! [Aug. 18th, 2006|08:57 am]
[mood |gratefulgrateful]

Discovered spots on Josie, and yes, we now have the pox!!

Josie is fine with it, not much itching and currently not too many spots. I hope it stays that way!

I'm glad we've got it now, it's a good age to have it and it'll be gone by the time we fly. Thank goodness!

Travel and Birthday [Aug. 18th, 2006|08:46 am]
Well, it is now only 3 weeks until Tim turns 30 and we travel to the States to see his family for a couple of weeks. We going to stay in Bolton (not in Lancashire!), Connecticut for a couple of days and then move on to Maine to see the Grandparents, then back to Boston for a few days. It is quite scary really, having never been on a long flight, and never having been to the States. Also having to drive an automatic on the wrong side. Argh! I can't wait! Perhaps Josie will keep me sane?!

I was thinking about having a gathering at the end of September to celebrate Tim's b'day. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll sort it out properly sometime soon - honest!!

Manchester Passion [Apr. 14th, 2006|11:41 pm]
I'm just watching this novel re-telling of the Passion of Christ, set in locations throughout Manchester, using the songs of Mancunian songsters and artists. It is amazing and very moving, especially using songs which were never meant to convey this message. Fantastic. If you missed it, watch out for repeats tomorrow. It is worth it even if you don't believe.

Goodbye my lovely dog [Mar. 20th, 2006|05:37 pm]
[mood |sadsad]

Well, great sadness now is upon my family as this weekend my dog, Zac, finally passed away. For those of you that never met him, he was a large, beautiful, black dog - a Great Dane crossed with something. He was super friendly and very placid. He loved the beach, and had many holidays with my parents in France at their caravan. He died of old age, 14 in human years - he was about 112 in big dog years - very old.

In true Nulty style we held a funeral for him. The big deep hole, the saying of prayers, giving him his toys and finally the dirt on top. My 11 year old nephew insisted on helping fill the hole in. It was a truly heart-breaking time.

Although he was my dog, he lived with my parents, it was unfair to them and him to remove him from their care when I got married. Towards the end, he had many problems, cancer of the blood vessels, which he overcame, and then loss of use of his back legs. My parents carefully nursed him by carrying him out to wee and feeding him roast dinners off their best plates. They stayed up with him and watched him pass away. It is very sad to walk into my parents house with no bouncy dog rushing over to say hello.

I had told Josie we were off to see Granny, and she mentioned Zac. How do you explain that to a 2 yr old? He is gone away, to live with God forever. I know God will look after him and love him. I hope that he realises what a special dog he is.

So, he is buried next to our previous dog, in a plot which will be loved and cared for. We won't forget what a gift he was, and it will be a long time before we'll forget him.
